The Mosaic Floors of the House of Kyrios Leontis in Nysa Scythopolis (Beth Shean)

The House of Kyrios Leontis in Nysa Scythopolis (Beth-Shean) was partially excavated by two expeditions and at different times, the mosaic floors have been published only preliminary publications. Two halls were discovered complex. first hall is decorated with a pavement three panels: Homeric story Odysseus Sirens; beribboned parrots surrounding dedication inscription; Nile god, Nilometer, city Alexandria, Nilotic landscape. second served as prayer room or small synagogue. A pair animals entrances, itself populated vine scrolls animals. Jewish ritual objects appear central medallion: seven-branched candlestick, citron, censer, ram’s horn. are inlaid inscriptions Hebrew, Aramaic Greek, names donors prayers for holy congregation.
 iconography, incorporating mythological subjects, god landscape, objects, common animal chase scenes, use languages that customary Byzantine Palestine, expresses character cultural inhabited mixed, well-educated population.
